Humiliation is an attack on honor by Cathie Neunreuther

Humiliation is an attack on honor or dignity. Honor depends on a code of values in which I am involved. Humiliation is a time, a scene, an action that puts us in default with respect to the code that, from then on, does not recognize us anymore. The fuller the code, the more honor can become a matter of life and death: nowadays, we can find it ridiculous that nobles of the Grand Siècle risked their lives in duels for matters of honor. But it is a question here of approaching the question of humiliation not from the philosophical side but from the side of the subject of the unconscious which exists only in relation to a place of the castrated code. I announce the color: if shame is, in my opinion, a clinic of specular imaginary identifications, humiliation, as for it, is not a clinic of the symbolic identification, but an echo of this one.

Ego ideal at the decline of Oedipus by David Bernard

The Name-of-the-Father is that by which, and thanks to which, the child, at the end of the Oedipus, will separate himself from his imaginary identification to the phallus. The child will be shaken off, says Lacan, “unshackled”, detached from his position of metonymic object of the mother. At the end, the necessity of a symbolic identification will open for the child. No more the identification to an image, but an identification to the insignia of the Other, here the father, which insignia will come to constitute, to the decline of the Oedipus, the ego ideal. Finally, this identification with the insignia of the Other will have another consequence: a modification of the subject’s desire. From then on, the ego is not only an imaginary element in the relation to the mother, but subjectifies itself and becomes itself a signifying element.

Lesbian phallus : a desire produced through a ban by Judith Butler

On the one hand, the phallus signifies the persistence of the “straight mind”, of a masculine or heterosexist identification and, consequently, it symbolizes the defilement and betrayal of lesbian specificity; on the other hand, it signifies the insurmountability of heterosexuality and makes lesbianism a vain or pathetic effort to imitate the only reality that is [the real thing]. Thus, the phallus enters lesbian sexual discourse as a transgressive “confession” that clashes with feminist and misogynist forms of repudiation as much as it is conditioned by them: those who say “it’s not the real thing” about lesbianism and those who say “it’s not the real thing” about heterosexuality. Thus it is precisely the repudiated desire that is “unmasked”, this desire relegated to abjection by heterosexist logic and defensively closed by an effort to circumscribe a specifically feminine morphology for lesbianism. In a sense, what is unmasked or revealed is a desire produced through a ban.

Judith ButlerBodies That Matter – On the Discursive Limits of SexRoutledge, 1993

The rupture of an identification by Octave Mannoni

We thus have a Freudian theory of shame, although Freud never stated it: it is the rupture of an identification at the level of the ego. We could “analyze the analysis” of Uncle Joseph’s dream with this idea, to see ambition, identification, fear of ridicule at work …

Why are you persecuting me? by Alain Didier Weill

One day, Paul has the foundational subjective experience of an event by which it is not by the putting into act of the law that it is possible to be torn from the persecution of original sin, but by an interior psychic act which consists to self identify to the one who said to him, “Why are you persecuting me? “
In this flashing conversion Paul’s values are reversed: from persecutor he becomes persecuted, and henceforth will have an extraordinary life as a man exposed to the trials of persecution like Christ.
Colossains 1:24
Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.

2 Corinthians 4
9
persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.

I arrived to the supposition threw this flashing identification to the Risen, Paul experienced the flashing disappearance of inner persecution. One fundamental point: there is a connection between the disappearance of internal persecution and the appearance of a persecution in reality coming from outside, whether from the side of the pagans or the Jews. This is what he later theorized as original sin.

Cleavage between the ego and the Superego by Jean-Luc Donnet

This gap between perfection and perfectionment/improvement means identification to the idealized Oedipal parents does not allow the ego to “take itself” as the ideal: there is clearly a hiatus, separation, structural cleavage between the ego and the Superego, and it is from this cleavage that the path of perfectionment/improvement finds his origine; in other words, it is not possible to separate the prohibitive superego side – do not be like your father – and the ideal side – be like your father.

Sedimentation in the Ego by Sigmund Freud

We can admit as a common result of the sexual phase – dominated by the Oedipus complex – a sedimentation in the Ego which consists in the production of these two identifications linked in some ways to each other. This modification of the Ego retains its determined position, and opposed the rest of the Ego’s content, as Ego-ideal or Superego.
